Motorists and residents around the Ogheghe/Bypass axis of the Benin/Sapele express road can now hive a sigh of relief as reconstruction works have commenced on the failed portions of the road.
For several months now, the road users have been suffering untold hardship while accessing the road. There had been several incidences of vehicular breakdown as well as motor accidents occurring on that route.
There have also been fears of fatal accidents caused by large trucks conveying commodities such as fuel, cement etc, by road users. The commuters had been passing through serious difficulties accessing their business locations around the affected areas.
Due to the deteriorating state of the road, transport fares were hiked by commercial bus drivers leading more financial hardship of commuters.
Very many business had closed down as a result of the bad road condition. Residents in the area have been relocating as the rains began to set in for fear of being completely cut off from the city.
The situation got worse last raining season due to lack of alternative routes, resulting to commuters being stranded on their way whenever they had to make use of the road, leading to further negative effects on economic activities around the area. This had hampered the development of Ogheghe/Bypass communities and environs.
Many people had given up hope of repairs to the road as the raining season began to set in. But to the surprise of everyone, reconstruction works have all of a sudden commenced with the presence of big machinery and equipment in operation at the failed portions, which has brought succor to the road users, residents and business owners around the area.
The construction firm handling the project could not be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report, however so much joy could be seen on the faces of all users of the road as they expressed surprise at the presence of the construction workers on site.
